Good Night Gorilla! Worksheets of task-based learning.

Since the beginning of last semester, I have been providing after-school learning support for fourth-grade English. They were a group of kids who had very limited knowledge of the English alphabet. After a semester of attending classes (twice a week), they have finally been able to independently complete this task sheet! I was deeply moved and couldn't help but shed tears of joy.

It happened that the school had an important meeting and needed someone to substitute teach. In the midst of urgency, I came up with this task-based learning sheet for self-directed learning. (Indeed, pressure can spur growth!)

I believe this form of self-directed learning sheet is suitable for third and fourth-graders!

***Background information:

  • We have several copies of the book "Good Night, Gorilla" in our school, and each of the six students in the after-school program had their own copy.

  • This semester, I trained them to record what they learned in each class by using the app called LoiLoNote, so they can operate the recording themselves.

  • They absolutely love scanning QR codes because they associate it with games. (Whenever there's a QR code, there's a game for them to enjoy!) Hahaha!

Student Works

(I love this response on the right: "Successfully rescuing myself!")

(This response is also excellent!)

From each student's learning sheet, we can see that each one excels in different areas. Some are good at finding words, some are talented at drawing, and some have strong reasoning skills!

These kids are just slow learners, but it doesn't mean they have low achievements in reality!
